At Fall River Feedyard LLC, we prioritize both the health of our cattle and the quality of our facilities.
From nutrition to pen management, every step of our operation is designed
to create a safe, consistent, and productive environment.
Cattle Care & Facilities
Feed Sourcing
Each fall, we prepare all the silage needed for the yard. Most corn comes from local farms within two hours and is steam-flaked on-site for better digestibility. Hay is sourced within three hours and ground into rations. DDG comes from a distillery in Onida, SD, and liquid feed and micronutrients are supplied by trusted livestock nutrition vendors.
Feeding Program
We offer a range of rations built from consistent, high-quality ingredients: flaked corn, silage, DDG, ground hay, liquid feed, and micronutrients. Rations are adjusted every 4–5 days for a smooth transition to a finished diet.
Feeding plans are tailored to each group—cull cows, finishing yearlings, and grass yearlings—and delivered three times daily to promote even intake and consistent access to fresh feed.
Pen Maintenance
After each group of cattle moves out, our crew thoroughly cleans and prepares the pens. Manure is removed down to the hardpan and sent to our composter. Low spots are filled with on-site sand, then pens are leveled and packed for safety and comfort. Smaller pens are scraped every rotation; larger pens every third. Water tanks are cleaned regularly and refilled before new cattle arrive.
Updates
We’re always making exciting updates to enhance our feedyard for both our cattle and employees!
Over the summers of 2024 and 2025, we completed the conversion of all our wood fences to durable pipe and cable, ensuring greater safety and long-lasting reliability. We’ve also expanded cement flooring in key areas to improve efficiency and animal comfort, while continuing to make progress on new facilities as part of our commitment to continuous improvement.
Most recently, our processing barn was upgraded with a sheet metal tub and alley offering greater durability and a smooth continuous flow reducing stress for cattle and cowboys.
